The Artistic Whisk Wedding Cake Guide

Flavors, Servings, Pricing, Design Tips and Delivery

Wedding cake planning can feel like a whole new language, especially if you’ve never ordered a tiered cake before. This guide is for couples, planners, and parents who want a clear, calm path from “Where do we start?” to a cake that looks beautiful, tastes delicious, and shows up exactly the way it should.

At The Artistic Whisk, we’re known for scratch baking, premium ingredients, and our signature Swiss meringue buttercream (smooth, less sweet, and European-style). Just as important, we’re known for a high-touch, organized experience with clear communication and reliable timelines.

Start here: The Wedding Cake Roadmap

Think of this as your wedding cake walkthrough, from guest count to cake cutting.

Step 1: The Right Size (without over-ordering)

The first question we solve is servings. Wedding cake slices and your final size depends on:

• Guest count

• Whether you’re serving other desserts

• Whether you want a display cake plus a kitchen cake

• If you share your guest count and dessert plan, we’ll recommend the most efficient tier sizes for your event.

Step 2: Flavor Pairing (our favorite part)

Most couples choose 1 flavor for a smaller wedding cake, and many choose 2 flavors for a tiered cake. If you’d like 3 flavors, we can absolutely do that as well. A third flavor is a $75 upgrade. We’ll help you build a flavor layout that makes sense for serving and for the cake-cutting moment.

What we’ll confirm with you:

• Your top flavor picks

• Any dietary needs (including gluten-free friendly $2 per serving upgrade)

• Which tier you’d like as your cutting tier for photos

Step 3: Design Made Simple or Highly-Custom (you don’t need a 40-photo Pinterest board)

All of our cakes include our classic, elegant Simple Sweet buttercream design. From there, we can customize details to match your wedding style.

One inspiration photo and a few words about your vision is enough to get started.

We’ll guide you through:

• Overall vibe (classic, modern, romantic, textured, sculptural)

• Color palette and florals

• Finish preference (smooth buttercream, textured buttercream, semi-naked)

• Optional statement details (wafer paper, hand-painted elements, gold leaf accents)

Step 4: What’s Inside a Tiered Cake (the engineering part)

Tiered cakes are engineered, not stacked “freehand.” Proper internal support keeps the cake stable from the bakery to the reception.

Depending on the size and design, we may use:

• Food-safe dowels for internal support

• A central support system for larger cakes

• Separate transport and on-site assembly when needed

Step 5: Florida-Proof Delivery and Setup

Heat, humidity, and travel time matter.

We’ll advise you on:

• Whether delivery/setup is recommended for your design

Venue access and timing (we’ll need your venue’s earliest vendor access time and the start time of cocktail hour)

• Cake care at the venue (simple tips that make a big difference)

• Recommendations vary by venue and timing, and we’ll guide you based on your setup and Florida weather. In general, we’ll help you plan for:

• A cool holding space: If your venue can store the cake in a cool, indoor area until closer to serving time, that’s ideal.

• Smart placement: We recommend keeping the cake away from direct sunlight, windows, heaters, or open doors where warm air and humidity can soften buttercream.

• Timing the display: If the cake would need to sit out for several hours, we’ll coordinate the best timing so it’s displayed closer to the reception.

• Outdoor events: If your cake table is outdoors or on a patio, we may recommend an indoor display location or a shaded, air-conditioned alternative. Fondant is also highly recommended (more bug-friendly) :)

• Pickup guidance: If you’re picking up your cake, we’ll share simple transport tips so it arrives safely and stays protected.

Step 6: The Cake-Cutting Moment (and how to serve it cleanly)

We’ll share simple cutting guidance so your venue team can serve clean, consistent slices.

Find out:

• Who will cut the cake (venue staff vs. planner)

• Whether you want the top tier saved or order a separate Anniversary Cake in a box and scan-wrapped.

Step 7: Saving the Top Tier (if you love the anniversary tradition)

If you’d like to save the top tier, we’ll share best practices for wrapping and freezing so it stays fresh.

Step 8: Your Style… Choose Your Design!

Here are a few popular directions we create, from timeless to bold:

The Classic: smooth buttercream tiers (clean, elegant, photo-ready)

The Lambeth Vintage-Style tiers (trending since 2025 until now…most popular)

The Romantic: semi-naked finish (soft, airy, and organic)

The Modern: minimalist tiers with intentional negative space

The Textured: palette-knife buttercream, soft ridges, or subtle swirls

The Statement: gold leaf, hand-painted elements, wafer paper details

The Smart Serve: display cake + kitchen cake (beautiful photos, efficient serving)
